A Basic design, not too difficult, except for the horns, they could be different to carve and not break, but that fact alone will help the scouts develop skill with more carving more fragile items
The Steel Skull in various forms becomes a popular topic for slides as time goes by
The slides remain small for a long time, this helps the scouts carve the slides quickly and keeps them interested, and does not allow them to get bogged down in big project that seem to go on forevery
These articles led to a monthly column in Boy’s Life – The Slide of the Month by Whittlin Jim Column
W Ben Hunt created the Whittlin Jim and Lone Eagle names, and published articles under all three name – Ben Hunt wrote 2-4 articles per month for Boy’s Life, and I think he created the Whittlin Jim and Lone Eagle to make is seem like there were multiple authors writing the articles
