Lewis Mitchell “Mike” Starr, USAF, TSgt, Ret., 82, of Volga passed away peacefully and surrounded by loving family on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at River Oaks Nursing Facility in Clarksburg.
He was born on March 21, 1936 in Horner a son of the late Carl Eugene and Eulah Adams Starr.

Cherishing their memories of Mike are two children, Carl F. Starr and Carolyn White and husband, Gregory, their mother, Margaret Ann Starr; three grandchildren, Michael Carl Starr, Zachary Loy and Jordan LeAnne White; three siblings, Phyllis Dittrich, Carl J. Starr and Susie Garron; three step children, Connie Hull Lewis and husband, Alva, and family, Bradley Hull and Gerald Hull and family and his cousin and close friend, Early Schrader.

In addition to his parents, his late wife, Ruth Hull Starr; one daughter, Connie Lavern Starr; three siblings, Virginia Lee Danser, Arthur Eugene Shoulders and Russell Eugene Starr and one infant sister, Lovey Eve Starr, greeted Mike at Heaven’s gate.

Mike was a decorated, 21-year United States Air Force Veteran who served in the Vietnam War. After his military retirement he continued to serve his fellow veterans as a member of the Lewis County Honor Guard and as a volunteer driver for Louis A. Johnson Medical Center. Mike was also a member of DAV Chapter 51 and VFQ Post 1976 as well as a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He worked in appliance repair for Bennett’s Firestone and in maintenance at Weston High Rise Chris Manor until his second retirement.

A true Mountaineer, Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in Almost Heaven. He was also an enthusiastic fan of WVU Sports. Mike also enjoyed boating and dancing to country music. He attended almost every Sunday country music show in Century.

Family and friends will gather at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday with Reverend Russell Furr officiating. Interment will follow at the Horner Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the United States Air Force and Lewis County Honor Guard.
