Nancy Carol Nestor McCue 1939-2018 Obituary
Nancy Carol Nestor McCue passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at her home in Charlottesville, Va. She was born on April 1, 1939, in Elkins, West Virginia, to William Huett Nestor and Verda Mary Evans Nestor.
She was a 1957 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and of the University of Virginia School of Nursing in 1960. She worked for several years at University of Virginia Hospital where she was head nurse of Pediatrics. She remained active throughout her life in the U.Va. and greater Charlottesville community, which included the Orthopedic, Sports Medicine, and Athletic departments as well as the Nursing School.
She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Dr. Frank Cyrus McCue III (known by many as “Doc”); and her brother, Dr. James Huett Nestor. She is survived by her son, Frank Joseph McCue of Charlottesville; her daughter, Marylyle Warren McCue; her son-in-law, Jordan Heine Reiter and her grandson, Nissim Francisco McCue Reiter of Philadelphia; and a large extended family. Nancy would often care for Doc’s patients in their own home. She offered kindness and hospitality to everyone from local students to professional athletes, Supreme Court judges, foreign dignitaries and famous actors. She had the difficult job of making sure college and high school athletes from all over the state were well cared for during their early post-operative phase when they or their families were unable to travel. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family and keeping in touch with the many people she helped through her association with the University. Nancy had a remarkable ability to reach people in a deep and positive way and was loved by many.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Nancy touched are invited to the Teague Funeral Home on Sunday October 21, 2018, from 1 to 3 p.m. located at 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to the Ivy Mountain Sports Medicine Center. The new Center will include a comprehensive Orthopedic Hospital, including facilities for short term post-operative care similar to the standard that Nancy provided in her home.
