Virginia Lee Smith 1927-2022 Obituary
Virginia Lee (Weese) Smith, age 95, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Thursday, April 21, 2022 in the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center. She had been in declining health.
She was born on Sunday, March 13, 1927 at Elkins, a daughter of the late John D. and Eva M. (Fansler) Weese. On July 28, 1945 she was married to Ray E. Smith, who preceded her in death on December 7, 2011, after sixty-six years of marriage.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are two sons, Harold (Rick) Smith and wife Lori of Elkins, and Eric Smith and wife Barbara of Arnold, MD; one daughter-in-law Genie Smith of Port Richey, FL; three grandchildren, Nicka (Darren) Boone Cleveland, TN, Lori Hill, Port Richey, FL, Leslie (Jason) Scott, Pasadena, MD; and seven great-grandchildren, Heather, Jordan, Sarah, Elizabeth, Jacob, Ryan and Logan; three great great grandchildren, Isaias, Nicolas, Hayes; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were two sons, Ray E. Smith, Jr. and James R. Smith; one grandson, James E. Smith; one sister, Delores Woody; and three brothers, Robert, Richard and Clarence Weese.
She had worked for the Elkins Laundry, Memorial General Hospital and for thirty years, the Reidboard Brothers. Virginia had two things that she was most passionate about. She took much pride in keeping her yard looking good, even when she should not have been going up and down her porch steps. When no one was around, she would go down her steps with her broom or rake and sweep her sidewalks and rake the yard. Another passion she had was sitting on her back porch watching people going in and out of Kroger’s especially the young children. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 10AM until 11AM, Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, from the funeral home chapel with The Rev. Julie Davis officiating. Interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens, near Gilman.
