Boy’s Life – 1951-02 – A Bantam Radio
Building a small radio with common parts, at least at the time
The only parts that might be hard to find is the wire clip, and the copper wire for the coil
a Screw in the board connecting two parts would be a substitute for the clips
A good substitute for the copper wire for the coil is a long ethernet cable, it has 8 plastic coated wires that could be strung together to get the length needed,d so if you havd 1 10 ft ethernet cable, you have 8 ft of copper wire
otherwise the copper wire can be purchased online
traditionally a crystal radio will have a 1N35 diode, or a gallenium crystal, but in 1911, it was discovered that a razor blade could be used in place of those two items, the razor blade was made famous during WW2 by soldiers in the field that wanted news of the world
a good learning experience and no power is required, the signal provides the power needed
