Emery D. “Ed” Gray, age 84 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Friday morning, March 15, 2013. He was born February 4, 1929 at Browning, Missouri, a son of the late Emery Emmett and Myrtle M. Stephenson Gray.
On August 30, 1952 at Elkins, he was married to Sylvia Plemmons Gray who survives.
Also surviving is one son, Joseph Alan Gray and wife Beth Ann of Owings, MD, one daughter, VeVica L. “Vicki” Gray of Elkins, a brother, Jack DeLane Gray and wife Evelyn of Blue Springs, Missouri, a sister-in-law, Mary Gray of Browning, Missouri and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Robert DeVane and George DeVon Gray. Mr. Gray retired from the United States Air Force with twenty one years of service. He had served from 1948 to 1969 and obtained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He later retired as a Golf Pro from the Elks Country Club where he worked from 1970 to 1976. He was an avid golfer and sports car enthusiast and in his younger years was a quail hunter and loved to fish. He was a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 19th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli officiating. Interment will follow in the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded at the gravesite by members of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery, c/o Joe Harman, PO Box 412, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mr. Gray.
