Mayoma Boyles Shipman, 92, a resident of Elkins, departed this life late Saturday evening, Jan. 5, 2013. at her home. She had been in declining health for the past two weeks.
She was born Monday, April 12, 1920. at Indian Camp, Upshur County, a daughter of the late Otha F. and Victoria Winemiller Boyles.
On Feb. 13, 1940. at Frostburg, Md., she was married to Hollis William Shipman, who preceded her in death Dec. 13, 1973. They had celebrated 33 years of marriage.
Surviving are three sons, Larry James Shipman and wife, Donna, of Elkins, William G. Shipman and wife, Joan, of West Hills, Calif., and Jerry L. Shipman and wife, Carroll, of Longview, Texas; one daughter, Linda S. Nida and husband, Dick, of Elkins; one son-in-law, Philip “Butch” Cunningham of Baltimore, Md.; 10 grandchildren, Jacqueline; Larry II, Lisa, Randy, Stephanie, Shawn, Dawn, C.J., Richie and Shawna; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death were one daughter, Karen Louise Cunningham; one brother, Ford O. Boyles; and one sister, Opal Cunningham.
She was a graduate of Upshur County High School. She had worked as manager and buyer of New Material Shop and in retirement worked at McManus Gifts and CaVars Dress Shop. She was a member of Delphia Rebekah Lodge 62, Elkins Lodge 116 IOOF., Otterbein United Methodist Church and enjoyed sewing, reading and world travel.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. On Wednesday, at 6 p.m., at the funeral home, Delphia Rebekah Lodge 62 will conduct ritualistic services. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Jim Murphy will officiate, and interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman.
