Mr. Fredrick Allen “Buck” Smith, 66, a resident of Elkins, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born May 4, 1946, at Elkins, a son of the late William Louis and Minnie Shetlin Smith.
He was married to Versie Wolford Smith, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are two sons, Joseph Allen Smith of Morgantown and James Lynn Smith of Elkins. One stepson, Eddie Lee Simmons of Virginia; two stepdaughters, Susan Gerkins of North Carolina, and Brenda Sue VanDevander of Florida; three brothers, Gene Smith of Colorado, David Smith of Montrose and Gary Smith of Elkins; one sister, Wilma Gimmel of Maryland; and several grandchildren also survive.
Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Marilynn Lord and Barbara Sue Smith.
Mr. Smith attended school in Maryland and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was employed as a laborer for several masonry firms retiring from James Phillips Masonry.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until noon Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at noon Wednesday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Charles Herron officiating. Interment will follow in American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery where presentation of the American flag will be made by members of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion.
