Gary Allen Corcoran, 73, a lifelong resident of Parsons, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Jan. 23, 2013, in Cortland Acres at Thomas, following a 12-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born Saturday, Nov. 25, 1939, at Elkins, a son of the late Earl and Violet Virginia Kelley Corcoran.

He was twice married. First, to Jean Nester Long, who survives with her husband, Ben, at Sunset Heights. On Nov. 7, 1998, at Porterwood, he was married to the former Rebecca Lynn Parks, who survives at Parsons.

Also surviving are three sons, Ricky Earl Corcoran and wife, Dana, of Blackman Flats, Rocky Allen Corcoran and Vivian of Bull Run and Kevin Scot Corcoran and wife, Tammy, of Parsons; one daughter, Kelly Rae Underwood and husband, Jerry, of Parsons; one stepson, Roger “Eric” Auvil and Jenny of Moorefield; one stepdaughter, Kimberly Gibson of Parsons; six grandchildren, Brandon and wife, Miranda, Ashley, Mike, Chris, Seth and Leah; five stepgrandchildren, Ethan, Thomas, Kandice, Steven and Travis; and one great-grandson, Colton Brooks Corcoran.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1958, where he served as class president and was a member of the football and basketball squads. He attended West Virginia University. He was a member of Parsons Presbyterian Church and served as a former deacon. He was a former member of Parsons City Council, and he was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Parsons, where he enjoyed cooking corn dogs at the fair. During his high school years, he worked for the former Clover Farm Grocery. He was a former employee of Stevens Construction, a former employee of the United States Forest Service and was a former salesman for Nationwide Insurance.

He was a self-employed carpenter. During 1998, he retired after 22 years of service at the Davis Center at Davis. He was an avid sports fan, following the New York Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys and Tucker County sports.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor, Sunday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. Pastor Allen Dale Crosten will officiate, and interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.
