Diane Lee Raszkowski Nuzum Obituary 1955-2013
Diane Lee Raszkowski Nuzum, 57, a resident of Elkins, unexpectedly passed from this life Monday afternoon, Jan. 21, 2013, in Good Samaritan Society of Barbour County, as the result of injuries sustained in a serious fall.
Born Tuesday, Sept. 6, 1955, at Tarentum, Pa., Diane was the daughter of the late Helen Hanosky Raszkowski and Theodore Raszkowski.
She was an honors graduate of both Iroquois High School in Lawrence Park, Pa. and Gannon University in Erie, Pa.
Diane was retired from Huttonsville Correctional Center after 30-plus years of service, working in both corrections and education. One of the founders of the Therapy Dog Program in Randolph County, Diane was well known for her passion connecting dogs with people who would benefit from a visit. She and her flat-coated retrievers were regular visitors to Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center for many years. She was also a qualified evaluator for Therapy Dogs International.
Diane is survived by her husband of 31 years, Jon Cedric Nuzum of Elkins; two brothers, Richard Raszkowski and wife, Bethany, of Erie, Pa., and Randall Taft and wife, Shelly, of Davidson, N.C.; two sisters, Marsha Raszkowski of Ripley, N.Y., and Sandra Ritz of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother-in-law, Jefferson Nuzum and wife, Carrie, of Valley Bend; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Diane’s request for cremation was honored. A memorial event will be planned in the spring honoring her life.
