Charles Roy Smith, 72, of Route 3, Philippi, died Thursday morning, Jan. 17, 2013, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown.
He was born Nov. 2, 1940, in Barbour County, a son of the late Bradford Ray and Goldie Beulah (Glendenning) Smith.
Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Smith of Elkins; his companion, Vicki Connell of Philippi; three grandchildren, Michael Daughterty and wife, Cecelia, of Lost Creek and Chelsey Smith and Christopher Smith, both of Middle River, Md.; three great-grandchildren, Cambria, Wyatt and Lilly Anna; three sisters, Josephine Collins of Romney, Juanita Moats of Philippi, Roselie Lawson of Baltimore; and three brothers, Bradford W. Smith of Moatsville and Darl Smith and Luther June Smith, both of Wheeling.
Mr. Smith formerly owned and operated C. & S. Gas near Philippi and managed a gas station-convenience store near Montrose. He had also operated the Teter Creek Bar. He enjoyed riding four-wheelers and working on cars.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, from Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main St. in Philippi. The Rev. Shirley Webster will officiate, and interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 until 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour,
