Roy Isaac “Pee Wee” Rhoades, 74, a resident of Hambleton, departed this life early Tuesday morning, Jan. 15, 2013, in St. Joseph’s Hospital at Buckhannon.
He was born Wednesday, Jan. 19, 1938, at Hambleton, a son of the late Cleveland Henry Rhoades and the former Zernia Elizabeth Roy.
Surviving are four sons, Lesley Cameron “Cam” Rhoades of Kenta, Okla., Cleveland Clarence “Cleve” Rhoades of Interlachen, Fla., John Jeffery Rhoades and Delton Don “Jipe” Rhoades, both of Hambleton; two daughters, Patricia Leabeth “Sis” Bohon and husband, James, of Elkins and DeAnna Eloise “Dee Dee” Summerfield and husband, David, of Hambleton; one brother, Jack D. Rhoades and wife, Beverly, of Texas; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and Holly Long, who was raised as a daughter, and her companion, Andrew.
Preceding him in death were one son, Roy Barto “Barry” Rhoades; eight brothers, Howard, Delton, Clarence “Bud,” Everett, Arthur, Harold, Thomas and Charles Rhoades; and four sisters, Flora Roy, Flodia Graham, Helen Delaney and Lorane Rhoades; and one granddaughter, Ahleah Mariah Summerfield.
He attended the schools of Tucker County and was a member of the football squad. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served as military police during the Korean Conflict. He was a former employee of a plastic factory in Ohio, and an employee of the former Parsons Tannery. During the early 1970s, he was chief of police of Hambleton. He worked in various power plants as a welder and then became the construction supervisor until his retirement during the mid 1980s. He was a member of Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed telling stories about family history, and he dearly loved his family and giving each one of them nicknames.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. On Saturday, at 7 p.m., a funeral ceremony will be conducted by the Rev. James B. Snyder. Mr. Rhoades’ request for cremation will follow.
