George Washington Teter, 85, a resident of Job, departed this life Friday evening, Feb. 1, 2013, at the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center.

He was born Tuesday, Feb. 22, 1927, at Job, a son of the late Franklin Ray Teter and Lora Jane Kyle Teter.

On Oct. 14, 1950, he was married to the former Martha Lee Long, who preceded him in death in January of 1993.

Surviving are two sons, George “Rodney” Teter and wife, Weona, of Red Creek, Wesley Ray Teter and wife, Ronda, of Job; two daughters, Lora May Mullenax and husband, Michael, of Job, and Peggy Ann Bradburn and husband, Harry, of Elkins; five grandchildren, Christina Nelson, Malinda Hunt and husband, Bobby, Jackie Marple and husband, Jermey, Jennings Bradburn and Tabitha Teter; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, and Marie Johnston, Denver Nelson, Shania and Addison Hunt, and Emily and Kelsey Marple; one great-great granddaughter, Raylee Cook; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family of 14 children, Roy, Hughie, Stanley, Leon, Clement, Percy, Paul, Foster, Anna, Vallie Irene, Fern, Madera and Juna Sue. Also preceding him in death are one infant son, Donald Ray Teter.

He attended the schools of Job, and was a Veteran of the United States Army, during World War II in the occupational forces in Germany. After the service, he worked for Glen L. Martin Plane Factory in Baltimore, assembling fuel lines on airplanes. He then returned to West Virginia and worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways, and later joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Boilers of America. He worked on the West Virginia University Coliseum at Morgantown, the Canaan Valley State Park, the Mount Storm Power Plant and the Etam Earth Station. He was a charter member of the Harman V.F.W. Post 5871 and later opened Teter’s Grocery Store in Job, which he operated for 25 years. He enjoyed turkey hunting, helping people and listening to bluegrass gospel music. He attended the Job United Methodist Church and the Whitmer Church of God.

The family will receive friends at the Job United Methodist Church Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final Rites will be conducted at the church, Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at 1 p.m.

The Rev. Eli Hostetler and The Rev. Earl Bible will officiate and interment will follow at the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer, where the H.W. Daniel’s Post 29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
