John William Wilt, 85, a resident of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Belington and a former resident of Stalnaker Road, Philippi, passed away at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born Dec. 17, 1916, in Preston County, the son of the late Frank and Beluah Jenkins Wilt.
He was united in marriage to the former Floray F. Gronfeld, who survives at Belington.
Also surviving are two daughters, Linda and husband, Carl Paitsel, Mineral, Va., and Susan M. Williams, Philippi; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and wife, Ellen Wilt, Acworth, Ga.; one sister, Frances Lambert, Burgettstown, Pa.; two brothers, Frank Wilt and Woody Wilt, both of Newburg; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, John Wilt Jr.; and two daughters, Debbie Nolan and Shelia F. Wilt.
Mr. Wilt was a retired coal miner and co-owner of Wilt Welding and Machine Shop at Philippi. He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army.
He was a United Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Downing Gregory officiating. Interment will follow in the West Virginia National Cemetery at Pruntytown.
