Opal Jessie Wright, 85, a resident of Crestview Manor, Jane Lew, and a former resident of Buckhannon Manor and Route 5, Buckhannon, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, in Crestview Manor.
She was born June 29, 1917, in Cannan, a daughter of the late Homer Ray “Pete” and May Victoria Morris Alkire.
She was twice married, first to Perry Stephen Wright and second to Malleu Marple, both of whom preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Ann and husband, Sterling Gregory, Route 5, Buckhannon, and Charlotte and husband, Ronnie Stonestreet, Raleigh, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and wife, Dorothy Wright, Philippi; one sister, Ercie Marie “Toots” Bennett, Buckhannon; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Perry Junior Wright; one daughter, Elizabeth May Wright; one infant daughter, one sister, Joycie Baker; and one grandson, Joseph John “Joey” Wright.
She was a retired bookkeeper. She was a member of Order Eastern Star No. 18 of Buckhannon. She was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert Lowther officiating. Interment will follow in Heavener Cemetery.
