Harold Ross Haymond, 64, a resident of the Haddix Road, Elkins, departed this life at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at his residence. He had been in declining health for the past three years.
He was born June 8, 1938, at Eden, Upshur County, a son of Frona Bell Friend Haymond, who survives at Holbrook Nursing Home at Buckhannon and the late Arnett Gerald Haymond.
On Nov. 17, 1990, at Buckhannon, he was married to the former Mary Frances Smith, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Derry Ross Haymond, Elkins, and Christopher Allen Haymond, Akron, Ohio; one daughter, Kellie Renee Strawder, Buckhannon; one brother, Gerald Haymond, Fairmont; three sisters, Arletta Mick, Helen Allman and Katherine Sue Higginbotham, all of Buckhannon; five grandchildren, Matthew Haymond, Samantha Haymond, Tabatha Haymond, Daniel Strawder and Tessa Strawder; one great-grandson, Mitchell Bowers and his wife’s children and grandchildren, Joseph Warder, Arbovale, Holly Ball, White Plains, Md., Annette Sines, Bainbridge Island, Wash., and Beth Wilfong, Slaty Fork, Drake and Charity Warder and Jeremiah and Zachary Ball.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Joe Haymond; and one grandson, Patrick Haymond.
He attended the schools of Upshur County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked as a welder, having last worked for Century Limestone.
He was a member of the H.W. Daniel’s Post 29, American Legion and the Barberton Lodge No. 750 AF & AM of Barberton, Ohio, and was a Protestant.
Friends were received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home Sunday. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel today at 1 p.m. Evangelist Gary L. Kendall and the Rev. Walter H. Blough will officiate and interment will follow at the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale, where the H.W. Daniel’s Post 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military rites and the Elkins Lodge No. 108 AF & AM will conduct masonic graveside rites.
