Jack Wilfong Sr., 88, a former resident of Elkins, passed away July 20, 2002, in Eau Claire, Wisc., following an extended illness.
He was born March 29, 1914 in Montrose, the son of the late Roy and Dove Gainer Wilfong.
On Oct. 29, 1937, he married Hazel Allender, who preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 1992.
He is survived by one son, Jack Wilfong and wife, Susan, of Eau Clare, Wisc.; two granddaughters, two grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. John (Sara) Scallon.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School and Davis & Elkins College, where he was a member of the football team.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed by the West Penn Electric Co., a Veterans Administration Hospital, was director of the Elkins YMCA, was employed by Ohio State University, and at the time of his retirement, he and his wife owned and operated a maintenance contracting company in Louisville, Ky.
He was a former member of the Elkins Fire Department and the First United Methodist Church of Elkins. He had been a member of the Elkins Lodge No. 108 AF & AM for more than 50 years.
