William Edward Hershman, 82, a resident of Route 2, Philippi, the Tacy community, passed away at 5:59 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 13, 1920, at Tacy, the son of the late Lorenzo Lee “Rennie” and Dorothy Blanche Freeman Hershman.
Surviving are two sisters and one brother-in-law, Dorothy Haller and husband, Vernon “Bill,” Route 1, Moatsville, and Betty B. Marsh, Route 1, Moatsville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Dottie Beatrice Marsh; and two brothers, Buey Darl Hershman and Lorenzo Lee Hershman Jr.
Mr. Hershman retired as a machinist for the Lever Brothers Co. in Baltimore, Md., with 32 years of dedicated service. Following his retirement in 1975, he returned to the Tacy community. He enjoyed helping at the Tacy Community Center.
In his youth, he attended the Tacy Cross Roads United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216, N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 4 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Boyce officiating. Interment will follow in the Cross Roads Cemetery.
