Gordie L. Pappas, 85, of Buckhannon, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2002.
She was a daughter of the late Waitman and T. “Will” and Katie M. Townsend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Angelos “Shorty” Pappas; one grandson, James Angelos Pappas; three brothers, Ray, Hoy and Charles; and five sisters, Lena, Lora, Doris, Catherine and Estella.
She is survived by one sister, Marjorie Markowich of Greenbelt, Md.; four children, Philip Pappas and wife, Connie, Danny Pappas and wife, Deborah, all of Huntington, Maureen Allen and husband, John, of Berlin, N.J, and Barbara Replogle and fiance, Gary Dowell, of Buckhannon. In addition she is survived by her grandchildren, Melissa Caul, Deidre Frawley, Joseph Zara, Melinda Noll, Zachary Pappas, Angela Harford and Natalie Pappas; and her great-grandchildren, Priscilla, Beverly, Gabriel and Amber Pappas, Zachary, Christina and Shannon Frawley, Hailey Noll, Denice, Elijah and Alison Caul and R.W. Harford.
She was a member of the St. Spyridon Creek Orthodox Church in Clarksburg, where she was active in the Ladies’ Philoptochos Society. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters Organization. She was a longstanding member of the Business and Professional Women’s Organization of Buckhannon and a lifetime member of the Buckhannon chapter of the Women of the Moose, where she was a graduate of the College of Regents. She took pride in
having graduated from the University of Hard Knocks at the age of 81. She and her husband owned and operated businesses in Buckhannon for many years.
Friends will be received at Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the Women of the Moose holding a memorial service at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Thursday at 1 p.m., burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park.
