Rosetta May Alkire, 83, a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center and formerly of Junior, departed this life at 9:26 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins. She had been in declining health for the past two years.
She was born Dec. 1, 1918, at Junior, a daughter of the late James Claude and Orpha “Kay” McDonald.
She was formerly married to Thomas Alkire, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, William Edward Alkire, Huntsville, Ala., and John H. Alkire, Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special niece, Becky Fletcher, Elkins.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Dorsey McDonald; and four sisters, Anna Goss, Lena Boserman, Lucille Quarry and Alma McCauley. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Alkire was a 1938 graduate of Belington High School and attended the Davis & Elkins College. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Junior and was retired from the Myers Clinic in Philippi.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted from the funeral home parlor with the Rev. Doyle Neil Rider officiating. Interment will follow in K of P Cemetery near Junior.
