Martha L. Moore Hanger, 86, a native of Barbour County, a former resident of Elkins, and since 1991, a resident of Minerva, Ohio, departed this life Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at Alliance Hospital in Alliance, Ohio, following an extended illness.
She was born Monday, Sept. 13, 1915, at Barbour County, a daughter of the late Wade H. Moore and Dora Edmond Moore.
She was twice married. First, to Frank Koontz, who preceded her in death. Second, on April 23, 1962, she was married to Robert L. Hanger, who preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1992.
Surviving are three sons, Warren Koontz, Minerva, Ohio, Charles Koontz and wife, Sue, North Canton, Ohio, and Hobart Koontz and wife, Alicia, Elkins; one daughter, Linda Williams and husband, Harold, Kensington, Ohio; one sister, Bernice Trahern, Elkins; two stepdaughters, Doris E. Young and husband, Jake, Naples, Fla., and Betty McGrane, Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several stepgrandchildren, several stepgreat-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Byrd and Bretsel Moore.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for more than 50 years, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary for more than 35 years, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Westside United Methodist Church at Belington.
Friends will be received at Bartley Funeral Home in Minerva, Ohio, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. On Friday, Mrs. Hanger will be moved to Lohr & Barb Funeral Home, where friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Saturday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Donald L. Lockhart will officiate and interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The family suggest that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Randolph County Unit, in care of Polly O’Kernick, 105 Wilson Lane, Elkins, W.Va. 26241.
