John M. Allman, 72, of Carlisle Twp., died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at his home following a long illness.
Mr. Allman was born in Arlington, a son of the late Clark and Tressie Samples Allman, and has been a resident of Carlisle Twp. since 1957.
He was married for 50 years to the former Jean Marley, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Darlene Tribby, Grafton, and Deanne May, Kingwood, Texas; a sister, Dotti Bosley, Arlington; and four brothers, Charles, Dayton, Ohio, David, Buckhannon, Okey, DeGraff, Ohio, and Dale, Huntington.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Caryl; and a brother, Bob.
Mr. Allman was a teacher for the Elyria City Schools at Crestwood Elementary for 31 years, retiring in 1986. He also worked part-time for Bryan Osborne Painting after retirement.
He was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the VFW Post 1079 in Elyria, Ohio, where he was past commander of the Military Order of Purple Heart No. 473. He was also a member of ICD (Internal Cardiac Defibrillator) at EMH Regional Medical Center. He was a life member of the Ohio PTA, and enjoyed gardening and reading.
Friends may call Saturday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bauer-laubenthal Funeral Home, Chestnut Ridge Road at state Route 57, Elyria, Ohio. Members of the VFW Post 1079 will conduct a military service at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
