Glenda G. Poling 1922-2002 Obituary
Glenda George Poling, 79, a resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, departed this life at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in the nursing home.
She had been in declining health and death was attributed to a stroke.
She was born Nov. 26, 1922, in Elk, Tucker County, a daughter of the late Luther Guy George and Laura Alice Carr George.
On March 4, 1939, in Parsons, she was married to Hoy “Porter” Poling, who preceded her in death on April 29, 1976.
Surviving are two sons, Porter “Edward” Poling and wife, Eileen, Parsons, and Richard Glenn Poling and wife, Stephanie, New Creek; two daughters, Katherine Louise Pine and husband, Darl Franklin and Glenda Alice Lipscomb and husband, Carl Eugene, all of Parsons; one brother, Calvin George and wife, Retha, Parkers Lake, Ky.; two sisters, Tressa Wilson, Kingsville, Texas, and Ruth Sherman, Berlin, N.J.; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Preceding her in death are three sisters, Toy Loughry, Virginia Williams and Rella Poling; and one grandson, Bryan Poling.
She attended the schools of Tucker County. She was a member of the Tucker County Senior Citizens, she was a member of AARP, and she was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Friends will be received at the Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday. On Friday morning, Mrs. Poling will be moved to the First United Methodist Church, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. the funeral hour. The Rev. David Fuller will officiate and interment will follow in the Parsons City Cemetery, Parsons. The family suggests the expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the First United Methodist Church, 101 First St., Parsons, W.Va. 26287.
