Harold Hugh Thompson 1922-2002 Obituary
Harold “Hugh” Thompson, 79, of Mt. Liberty Community, Route 4, Philippi, passed away Thursday morning, April 11, 2002, at home, with his family, following an extended illness.
He was born June 6, 1922, at Mt. Liberty, a son of the late James Otis Sr. and Iris Daughtery Thompson.
On Dec. 19, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Mavis Catherine Corley, who survives at Mt. Liberty.
Also surviving are four sons, Gary Hugh Thompson and wife, Laurel, Craig, Alaska, Christopher Dean Thompson and wife, Christina, Thomasville, Pa., William David Thompson, Mt. Liberty Community, and Donald Keith Thompson and wife, Vickie, New Oxford, Pa.; four daughters, Janet Sue Thrift and husband, Michael, Waipahu, Hawaii, Judith Lynn Delaney and husband, Basil, Bladensburg, Md., Cynthia Jo McKinney and husband, Buddy, Summersville, and Catherine Jean Koontz and husband, Steven, Mt. Liberty Community; 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two brothers, William Thompson, Tallmadge, Ohio, and Robert “Bob” Thompson, Belington.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Otis “June” Thompson Jr. and Waitman “Geral” Thompson; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Thompson attended Barbour County Schools and was a combat veteran of World War II. He was a retired auto mechanic and body shop technician.
The Thompson family will receive friends at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Elder Wilfred Barbosa officiating. Interment will follow in W.Va. National Cemetery near Grafton.
