Virginia Elizabeth Shaffer, 82, a former resident of Randolph Avenue in Elkins, passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Nella’s Inc., where she had been a patient for the past two years.
She was born May 8, 1920, in Randolph County, a daughter of the late Estel and Nora Pritt Phares.
She had been twice married, her first husband, Biggie Wamsley, who preceded her in death. She then was united in marriage to Glen Shaffer, who also preceded her in death in 1984.
Surviving are one sister, Kathleen Chewning of Elkins; one brother, Junior Phares of Dayton, Ohio. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, including a close niece, Barbara Isner Fisher of Elkins.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were two sons, Wilson Espito and Eugene Wamsley; two sisters, Opal Isner and Gladys Miller; and one brother, Carl Phares.
She was employed at Dutch Oven Bakery and was also employed by Doris Hiner, where she worked as a waitress and housekeeper for several years until retiring. She was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Chapel Wednesday after noon and until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Frank Long, pastor of the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Elkins Memorial Gardens in Elkins. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Virginia Elizabeth Shaffer.
