Bessie Leona Sutherland 1909-2002 Obituary
Bessie Leona Sutherland, 83, a former resident of Huttonsville, and a resident of Nella’s Inc. since 1994, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at 4:10 p.m. at Nella’s.
She was born April 9, 1909, in Valley Head, a daughter of the late Amos and Lucy Simmons.
She was twice married.
Her first husband, Clinton Welch, preceded her in death in 1962.
On March 12, 1976, she was united in marriage to Chalmers Sutherland, who also preceded her in death on May 4, 1999.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Clifford Welch and wife, the Rev. Lauren, of Baltimore, Md.; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sutherland was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one daughter, Icie Welch; one son, Richard Welch; several sisters and brothers, and two grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church.
Friends were received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Sunday. Funeral services were conducted from the Runner chapel today at 11 a.m.
The Rev. Lauren Welch and the Rev. Verl Simmons, pastor of the Mill Creek United Methodist Charge, officiated.
Interment followed in Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville.
The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Bessie Leona Sutherland.
