Mrs. Mollie Theresa Korosec Waitkus, 88, of Coketon, departed this world Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 19, 1914, in Davis. She was the third of six children.
She is survived by her two sons, Dr. Alexander M. Waitkus of Virginia Beach, Va., and Robert Lee Waitkus of Thomas; two sisters, Anna Strout and Mary Cheplo, both of Gowanda, N.Y.; and four grandchildren, Alexander Paul, Mark Daniel, Pamela Anne and Karen Marie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander V. Waitkus, two brothers and one sister.
Mollie was a lifelong member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church and Rosary Altar Society.
She was a loving mother and inspiration to her sons and her grandchildren. She was greatly admired by her many friends in the community. The medical staff at the Ruby Cancer Center in Morgantown, where she was treated for several years, considered her their “poster child” patient. One of their children was given her name.
Friends will be received at the Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a vigil for Mollie will be at 7 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with Father Lino Ebejer as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Thomas. The Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
