Sylvia K. Thorne 1942-2002 Obituary
Sylvia K. Thorne, 60, a resident of Volga, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Broaddus Hospital emergency room on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002.
She was born May 18, 1942, at Buckhannon, the daughter of the late Opha and Geneva McCauley Zirkle.
She was united in marriage to Ronald Thorne, who preceded her in death on June 9, 1997.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and husband, David Brewer, Fairmont, and Renee and husband, Brian Curtis, Buckhannon; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard and wife, Stephanie Thorne, Brandywine, and Rodney “Albert” Thorne and companion, Linda Westbrook, Volga; a companion, John Saffle, Volga; four sisters, Vivian Arbogast, Buckhannon, Carol Criss, Philippi, Betty Elwood, Loraine, Ohio, and Opal Skidmore, Norton; four brothers, Ivan Zirkle, Avon, Ohio, Howard Wayne Zirkle, Elyria, Ohio, Donald L. Zirkle, Vermillion, Ohio, and Burl Roger Zirkle, Buckhannon; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Timothy; one grandchild and one brother.
In her earlier years, she was a coal miner, having been employed at Kitt Energy and Upshur Coal. She was co-operator of J&S Grocery Store at Century.
She was a member of United Mine Workers’ District 31.
She was a United Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Carol Duffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery. The Wright Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
