Carl David Varner Sr., 63, of Dry Fork, passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at his residence.
He was born April 30, 1939, in Dry Fork, a son of the late Johnnie Wesley and Goldie Marie Burns Varner.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Carol Harper Varner; one son, Carl David Varner Jr. and wife, Dana, of Harman; four daughters, Penny A. Carr of Beverly, Mrs. Rhonda J. (and husband, Gary) Smith of Harrisonburg, Va., Mrs. Cynthia J. (and husband, James) Pratt of Linerville, Va., and Mrs. Denise M. (and husband, Jimmy) Cooper of Harrisonburg, Va.; one brother, Joseph Varner of Dry Fork; five sisters, Kathryn Teter of Dry Fork, Annalea Lawrence of Hambleton, Juanita Mallow of Dry Fork, Jennie Teter of Pierpont, Ohio, and Grace Wolford of Dry Fork; 12 grandchildren, Christopher W. Smith, Jennie Smith, Melissa S. Carr, Joshua R. Smith, Tiffany R. Carr, Brandi M. Cooper, Chelsey B. Cooper, Kevin W. Pratt, Kelli D. Carr, Kayla A. Carr, Christopher D. Varner and Shane B., Varner; and one great-grandchild, Noah L. Carr.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Mr. Varner was a retired truck driver and carpenter. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Elkins and FOE No. 936 of Davis.
Friends will be received at the Riverside Mennonite Church in Dry Fork Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Riverside Mennonite Church Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joe Mininger officiating. Interment will follow at the Roy Varner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Hospice of Elkins. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
