Boone Mason Salisbury 1920-2002 Obituary
Boone Mason Salisbury, 82, of Alston Corner, Ore., died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Longview, Wash.
Mr. Salisbury was born May 29, 1920, in Blue Springs, a son of the late Winfield H. and Bertha M. Stalnaker Salisbury.
He was twice married. First, on Feb. 23, 1947, in Astoria, Ore., he married Chloteen Jones Cutlip, who preceded him in death on Aug. 17, 1993. Second, on Nov. 5, 1994, at Rainer, Ore., he married Esther L. Robinson, who survives at the family home in Alston Corner, Ore.
Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Marie Cutlip, Astoria, Ore., and Dave and Shari Salisbury, Svensen, Ore.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Cheri and Bill Rygg, Mesa, Ariz., Lynn and Dennis Boyle, Sunset Beach, Ore., Dee and Don Bartlett, Svensen, Ore., and Rebecca and Douglas Palm, Albany, Ore.; four stepdaughters and three stepsons-in-law, Connie Boyle, Sisters, Ore.; Colleen and Greg Payne, Goble, Ore., Douglas and Connie Robinson, Chehalis, Wash., and David and Judee Robinson, Sisters, Ore.; 37 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.
Mr. Salisbury was raised and educated in West Virginia. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941 and served in the South Pacific and Panama, during World War II until 1945, when he was honorably discharged. During his first years in Oregon, he worked as a faller in the woods and at the lumber mill in Bradwood, Ore. He went to work for Crown Zellerback Pulp/paper Mill at Wauna and retired there as an oiler in 1984.
He enjoyed working on his farm in Svensen, Bluegrass music, writing poetry and his family. His renewed faith in 1965 sparked an interest in Christian writing. He has had several poems and three books published, as well as numerous articles and a column in the Alder Patch Community Newsletter. In the early 1990s, he made two trips to Africa to deliver medical supplies with the “Teen Trees Inc.” He was known for his sense of humor and being a good family man, who loved hosting his annual Bluegrass Hoedowns.
Private family graveside services were held today at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Astoria, Ore. A public memorial service will be today at 4 p.m. at Alston Corner Assembly of God Church in Alston Corner, Ore. Memorial services will be made to Gideons International, PO Box 2007, Gearhart, Ore. 97138. Caldwell’s Luce-layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, Ore., is in charge of the arrangements.
