Everett J. “Joe” Bennett, 72, of Biloxi, Miss., died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in Biloxi, Miss.
Mr. Bennett was born Nov. 28, 1929, in Beverly.
He was employed in the shipbuilding industry for 40 years. He resided on the Gulf South since 1964 and a resident of the Mississippi Coast since 1973. He retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding in 1985. He was a six-year veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War and was discharged with the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. He was a member of the American Legion Post 160 in Pascagoula, Miss.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman Bennett and Ruth Lothery Bennett; and a brother, Sherman Earl Bennett.
Surviving are his wife, Joan D. Bennett of Biloxi; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Tarpein of Palm Bay, Fla., and Susan Bennett of Waukegan, Ill.; one son, Everett J. “Joe” Bennett Jr. of Biloxi; three sisters, Marietta Shiflet of Elkins, Thelma Daniels of Biloxi, Miss., and Joan McClannan of Crooksville, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Friday at Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-o’Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi, Miss. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery. Interment will follow.
