Albert L. “Little Papa” Gotthardt, 76, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and formerly of Lower Cheat, Elkins, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, in Baptist Hospital, Pensacola, Fla., where he had been a patient for a month. Death was attributed to cancer.

Mr. Gotthardt was born April 9, 1925, in Boston, Mass., a son of the late Joshua and Celica Gotthardt.

He married Betty Gotthardt, who preceded him in death

Surviving are two sons, Charles Collins and wife, Quintina, Pensacola, Fla., and Earl Collins, Reinholds, Pa.; a brother, Ernie Gotthardt and wife, Chau, San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, Sandra Koltz and husband, Barry, Delray Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren, Kristina Collins, Ruther Glenn, Va., Ashley Collins, Kenneth Collins, Taylor Collins and Charles Collins Jr., all of Pensacola, Fla.

Mr. Gotthardt attended the Boston public schools and was a graduate of the College of Engineering of Northeastern University in 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from the Naval Research Laboratory on Aug. 26, 1978, after 33 years of federal service.

Among his accomplishments during retirement was founding the TBT, a small group of computer and high-tech enthusiasts who pooled their resources use their best assets and equipment. He served as president and chief executive officer of TBT.

He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Mr. Gotthardt was cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to a local Alcoholics Anonymous group.
