Lonnie L. Chewning, 87, a patient in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, died Thursday morning, Jan. 24, 2002, in the center.
Mr. Chewning was born June 1, 1914, in Mill Creek, a son of the late Elihue and Esther Shiflett Chewning.
He married Beulah Brake Chewning, who preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1991.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Gerald (Maude) Wamsley, Mill Creek, and Mrs. Edward (Agatha Kate) Smith, Elkins; a sister-in-law, Opal Brake, Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence “Bud” Chewning; and an infant sister, Edna Chewning.
Mr. Chewning attended the schools of Randolph County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed as a crane operator for many years in the the shipyards of Baltimore, Md.
Funeral Arrangements: Friends may call at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Saturday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Terry Burgess officiating. Interment will follow in Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville.
