Agnes McClain Hyre, 90, of 402 Buckhannon Manor, Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, in Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
Mrs. Hyre was born Oct. 10, 1911, in Ashville, N.C., a daughter of the late Rev. Bob and Hattie Carr Bennett McClain.
On Dec. 8, 1927, she married Herbert P. Hyre Sr., who preceded her in death on July 7, 1977.
Surviving are two sons, Herbert Hyre Jr., Buckhannon, and Charles E. Hyre, Bucks County, Pa.; a daughter, Ethel Lee Johnston, Holly Grove; a sister, Margaret Mackey, Cameron; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Lt. Jack R. Hyre; two brothers, Troy D. McClain and Harold McClain; and a half sister, Ruth McClain.
Mrs. Hyre was a cook for 25 years at Central School. She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Buckhannon VFW Ladies Auxiliary and several church groups. She was a charter member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
Funeral Arrangements: Friends will be received at Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Stackpole officiating. Interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
