Forest H. Bowers, 86, of Norton and Ft. Meade, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in Ft. Meade, Fla.
Mr. Bowers was born Dec. 27, 1915, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Ira Joseph and Lillian Hoover Bowers.
He married Virginia Powers Bowers, who survives in Florida.
Also surviving are two sons, David Bowers and wife, Jane, Norton, and Philip Bowers and wife, Arlene, Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Jane) Pingley, Norton, and Mrs. Jack (Joy) Rossi, Charleston; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sawyer and Wilson Bowers; and two sisters, Hattie and Helen Bowers.
Mr. Bowers was a coal operator having owned and operated Bowers Coal Co. for 40 years. He was a member of First Christian Church of Elkins and was an ordained elder and deacon of the church. He was an associate member of Lake Buffum Baptist Church and was an adult Sunday School teacher.
Funeral Arrangements: Friends may call at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturday, Mr. Bowers will be moved to Elkins Memorial Gardens (formerly the IOOF Cemetery) where a graveside service will be at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kent Price officiating. Interment will follow.
