Virginia Fern Coontz, 80, of Mabie, died at 5:10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 27, 1921, at Hendricks, a daughter of the late Robert and Louella Gower Johnson.
She married Carl D. Coontz, who preceded her in death March 23, 1987.
She is survived by one daughter, Faye Bertelli and husband, Richard, Mabie; two granddaughters, Frances Frazer and husband, Robert, Elkins, and Angela Bertelli, Hillsboro; one stepgreat-granddaughter, Adrienna Frazer, Lorain, Ohio; and one sister, Irene Rowan, Monterey, Va.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Coontz; and two sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Coontz attended the schools of Randolph County and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Elkins-randolph County Senior Center, an associate member of the United Mine Workers of America and was a Methodist by faith.
Funeral Arrangements: Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the McNeely Cemetery near Hendricks with the Rev. Leon Hevener officiating. Interment will follow. Flowers are to be omitted and memorial contributions may be made to the Hendricks United Methodist Church, Hendricks, W.Va. 26271 in memory of Mrs. Coontz.
