Martin Luther “Marty” Bowman Jr., 77, of Route 2, Belington, died early Tuesday morning, Feb. 5, 2002, in Broaddus Hospital in Philippi, following a brief illness at his home.
Mr. Bowman was born June 19, 1924, in North Plainfield, N.J., a son of the late Martin Luther and Margaret Gardener Bowman.
He married the former Margaret Molnar, who preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 1981.
Surviving are three daughters, Claudia Wheat, Parsons, Tenn, Phyllis Wills and husband, Rodney, Tabernacle, N.J., and Irene Jones, Williamstown, N.J.; two sons, Bruce Bowman and wife, Stephanie, Oak Harbor, Wash., and Mark Bowman and wife, Debbie, Browns Mills, N.J.; a sister, Evelyn Sullivan, Spring Valley, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his companion of 18 years, Betty Ferguson, Belington.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Bowman and Bob Bowman.
Mr. Bowman was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a retired carpenter in heavy construction.
Funeral Arrangements: Friends may call at Schoonover-stemple Funeral Home in Belington Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. F.L. “Wink” McQuain officiating. Interment will follow in Belington Fraternal Cemetery.
