Alva Joy Lawrence, 95, of Dry Fork, passed away Friday, March 1, 2002, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.
He was born Feb. 13, 1912, in Dry Fork, a son of the late Floyd and Minnie Simmons Lawrence.
Survivors include his wife, Arizona F. Lawrence; three sons, Perley Lawrence and Jamie Lawrence of Dry Fork, and Virgil Lawrence of Rawlings, Md.; two daughters, Hilda Smith of New Freedome, Pa., and Norma Trent of Johnston, Tenn.; two brothers, Ashley Lawrence of Cumberland, Md., and Cecil Lawrence of Cresaptown, Md.; one sister, Mildred Moreland of Silver Springs, Md.; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, two brothers, one half brother and three sisters.
Mr. Lawrence was a farmer and an iron worker. He was a member of Iron Workers Local 568 of Cumberland, Md., the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Cresaptown, Md., and a member of the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church.
Friends will be received today at Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at Dry Fork Assembly of God Church at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Plaster officiating. Interment will follow in the Bonner Mountain Cemetery.
