John M. Carpenter, 79, of 9 Lincoln Way, Buckhannon, died Monday, March 25, 2002, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
Mr. Carpenter was born May 12, 1922, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Floyd M. and Wilma Burnside Carpenter.
On Aug. 3, 1945, he married Virginia Lee Brooks Carpenter, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Jack B. Carpenter, Buckhannon; and one granddaughter, Kaylyn Lee Carpenter, Buckhannon.
During World War II, he served as a fighter pilot on the Carrier Randolph in the Pacific. In 1949, he graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College. He was past president of the Buckhannon Lions Club, a member of BPOE Lodge 1736, and Buckhannon Country Club.
Before retiring, Mr. Carpenter was a pharmaceutical representative for Schering-plough Pharmaceutical Co. for 25 years. He attended the First Presbyterian Church in Buckhannon.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Heavner Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Godwin will conduct graveside services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
