David Bruce McLaughlin, 41, a resident of 109 Bell St., Elkins, departed this life at 4:20 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2002, at his residence. He had been in declining health, and his death was attributed to cancer.
He was born Monday, Dec. 26, 1960, at Elkins, a son of Thomas Lee and Sandy McLaughlin of Walstonburg, N.C., and Maria and Jake Pingley of Elkins.
On Nov. 28, 1992, at Elkins, he was married to the former Diane Himelrick, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are his paternal grandmother, Eunice McLaughlin; three sons, John William Wicks, Randall Eugene Hedrick and Travis Richard Hedrick, all of Elkins; one daughter, Tosha Marie Hedrick, Elkins; one brother, Jeffery Thomas McLaughlin, Walstonburg, N.C.; one stepbrother, Ralph Bable, Walstonburg, N.C.; three stepsisters, Vanessa Carr, Elkins, Diane “DeDe” Pingley, formerly of Elkins, and Tammy Bable Jones, Walstonburg, N.C.; and one nephew, Jordan C. McLaughlin.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Marion “Mac” McLaughlin; his maternal grandparents, Irons and Wahna McQuain; and one niece Erin C. McLaughlin.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1979. He worked as custodian for Elkins Cinema 7, was a Ham Radio operator and was in charge of Elkins Area Radio Net and Barbour County Emergency Net and was a member of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church at Beverly.
Cremation services were provided by Lohr & Barb Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mount Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Nestor officiating. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Randolph County Unit, in care of Polly O’Kernick, 105 Wilson Lane, Elkins, W.Va. 26241, or to Hospice Care Corporation, 629 North Ave., Elkins, W.Va. 26241.
