Thomas A. Cline Jr., 81, a resident of Baughman Towers, Philippi, and Route 1, Moatsville, died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2002, in Broaddus Hospital, Philippi, following an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 5, 1920, at Moatsville, a son of the late Thomas Alexander Cline and Dora Catherine Ritter Cline.
On Aug. 21, 1940, he married his wife of 61 plus years, the former Bernice A. Haller, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Gerald Cline and wife, Dianna, Philippi; one daughter, Regina Murphy and husband, Lynn, Philippi; two granddaughters, Angela Doyle, Ashburn, Va., Lanessa Murphy, Philippi; two sisters, Marguerite Freeman, Moatsville, and Myrtle Haller-moore, Montrose; and one brother, Dowden Cline, Jacksboro, Tenn.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Charles Hayward Cline; two sisters, Gretchen Madeline Cline and Mabel V. Moats; one brother, Thelmar Cline; and one granddaughter, Lynnae Murphy.
Mr. Cline was a retired carpenter in home and commercial construction and was a farmer. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Combat Engineers. He was a member of American Legion Post 44, Philippi, a life member of Laurel Mt. Post 410, VFW, Belington and the Barbour County Senior Citizens. He attended the Nestorville United Methodist Church and Tuesday morning services at Baughman Towers. He played mandolin with the Barbour County Senior Citizens Band and was the former mandolin player for the Nestorville Guys.
Friends may call at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Kenny Kendall and Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Interment will follow in Cross Roads Cemetery with American Legion Post 44, conducting military rites.
