Jerry R. Cassell, 78, of Richmond, Va., died Monday, April 1, 2002.
He was born in Cass, a son of Willis and Pearl Cassell.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen; three daughters, Diane Cassell, Gerilyn Alderman and husband, Randy, of Buckhannon, and Martha Thompson and husband, Steve; eight grandchildren, two brothers, Neal Cassell of Cass, and Grey Cassell of Brandywine; and three sisters, Gayle Mullenax of Arbovale, Beatrice Young of Virginia Beach, Va., and Charlotte Galford of Portsmouth, Va.
He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps 8th Air Force during World War II. Later, he retired from the appliance business. He was past commander of the American Legion Post 244, Glen Allen, Va., and the American Ex-pOW’s, Denny Landrum Chapter in Richmond, Va. He was also a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and a lifetime member of the VFW and the DAV. He was devoted to his volunteer work at the McGuire Veterans Administration Hospital for many years.
His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home, Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Road, where family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Funeral service will be in the funeral home chapel Wednesday at 11 a.m. with interment to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
