Vernor Webb Gerrard, 89, of Elizabeth Street, Buckhannon, died Monday, Sept., 30, 2002, in the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
Mr. Gerrard was a retired well tender with Hope Natural Gas Co.
He was born in Sardis, June 7, 1913, a son of the late Grover E. and Frances C. Southern Gerrard.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Earldine Scott Gerrard, whom he married Feb. 28, 1942.
Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Tommy (Nancy) Moffett, Wilmington, N.C., and Mrs. Don (Judy) Nestor, Buckhannon; four grandchildren, Shawna Kerekes, Sharece Hendrix, Mendy Nestor and Ryan Nestor; two sisters, Eulah Bray, Fairmont, and Garnett Lynch, Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Edmond Gerrard.
Mr. Gerrard was a former member of the Sardis Methodist Church and attended Buckhannon First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart, as well as two bronze stars.
Family and friends may call at Davis Funeral Home, One Olen Thomas Drive, Route 98, Clarksburg, Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard McGuire presiding. Interment will be in the Greenlawn Masonic Cemetery, where full military services will be accorded.
