Rachel M. Kirk, 73, a former resident of Norton and a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home for the past five years, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at 11:58 a.m. in Davis Memorial Hospital, where she had been admitted on Monday evening.
She was born Feb. 18, 1929, at Norton, a daughter of the late Edward Lee and Beulah Hester Helmick Phillips.
On Feb. 5, 1951, she was united in marriage to Howard Glenn Kirk, who preceded her in death on May 29, 1989.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were two brothers, Walter Lee Phillips and infant, Jerry Lewis Phillips.
She is survived by three daughters, Ellen M. Crist of Towson, Md., Patricia A. Bennett and husband, Michael, of Jimtown, and Barbara J. “Joey” McCauley and husband, Mark, of Beverly; three sons, Walter G. “Shorty” Kirk and wife, Wynette, of Louisiana, David A. Kirk and wife, Nancy, of Martinsburg, and William E. Kirk of Norton; five sisters, Marie McCauley and husband, Leon, of Maryland, Irene Kidder of Parkersburg, Mary Herron of Oakland, Md., Sandra Hart and husband, Lee, of Parsons, and Claramae Boserman and husband, Jack, of Parsons; two brothers, Keith Phillips and wife, Gail, of Parsons, and Gary “Jerry” Phillips and wife, Ruth, of Jimtown; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was a loving mother and homemaker. She loved quilting, crocheting and gardening. She was a Methodist by faith.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced tomorrow. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
