Walter J. “Babe” Fridley, 85, of Westview Acres community, Buckhannon, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born Aug. 26, 1917, in Covington, Va., a son of the late George A. and Fannie Kimberlin Fridley.
He married Judy Hull Fridley, who survives in Buckhannon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children, Donna J. Branch of Tampa, Fla., Janice G. Smith of Lake Mary, Fla., Karen F. Tate and husband, Tommy, of Lake Mary, Fla., Terri L. Jones and husband, Larry, of Lost Creek, Barbara A. Strniste and husband, Pete, Granby, Conn., Gerald L. “Jerry” Fridley of Maitland, Fla., and Gayle J. Fridley of Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren and two twin great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
He was a retired foreman after 34 years with Columbia Gas Co. He was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance and attended the Buckhannon Alliance Church.
Friends will be received at Tomblyn-whitescarver Funeral Chapel today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jack Bohman officiating. Interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery.
