Gerald Grant Laynes Himes Mace, 64, died too soon Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, in Warren, Ohio, following an extended illness.
He was born in Elkins on March 18, 1938, and resided in Coalton until he moved to Warren, Ohio, in 1958.
Following 42 years of service, Jerry retired from Packard Electric in 1999 to pursue his lifelong interest in nature photography. Jerry spent most of this past September photographing the fall colors in the Grand Tetons of Wyoming.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Eugene “Papp” Layne; his stepfather, Charles Davis Mace Sr.; and two grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons, Dr. Gerald Mace Jr. and wife, Debbie, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Michael Mace and wife, JoAnn, of Champion, Ohio; Lorraine Custer Mace of West Farmington, Ohio; and three grandchildren, William Davis Mace, Angela Black and Jason Black.
He is also survived by friend and companion, Norma Pugh; by his mother, Mona Adalene Mace; by brothers, Charles Davis Mace, Leonard Mace, Gary Layne, Jules Layne and Robert Layne; by sisters, Sharon Riffle, Trudy Mahanes, Gail Sandella, Joan Riffle and Terri Fox.
Burial will take place at the Dunkard Cemetery in Junior at 1 p.m. Friday officiated by Pastor Jim Smith.
