Fredo Bertelli, 77, a former resident of Norton and a resident of Wheeling since 1967, passed away Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at 3:50 a.m. at the Ohio Valley Medical Center, where he was admitted on Dec. 21, 2002. He had been in failing health for two years.
He was born Jan. 16, 1925, in Randolph County, the son of the late Dominick and Mary Boisi Bertell.
He was united in marriage on Oct. 5, 1950, to the former Mary T. Zirkle, who survives in Wheeling.
He is survived by one son, Roger Bertelli of West Liberty; five sisters, Connie Martelli of Fairmont, Mrs. Joe (Anita) Manolidis of Elkins, Dena Bertelli, a resident of Nella’s, Mrs. Charles (Dora) Stanley of Norton, and Gloria Bertelli of Norton; and four brothers, Tony Bertelli and wife, Nancy, of Norton, David Bertelli and wife, Dottie, of Norton, Frankie Bertelli and wife, Lillian, of Norton, and Joe Bertelli and wife, Mary, of Elkins. Also surviving are one grandson, Michael Bertelli of Bethany, and one granddaughter, Moriah Bertelli of Wheeling.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Nikie Bertelli, and one infant brother, Robert N. Bertelli.
He was a retired coal miner, having last been employed by Valley Camp Coal Co. until retiring. He was an avid fisherman, loved to garden and also made sure he fed all birds. He was a veteran, having served as a seaman first class with the U.S. Navy during World War II, having been discharged on Nov. 16, 1945.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Mr. Bertelli’s name to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
