Thomas Michael George 1933-2002 Obituary
Thomas Michael George, 69, a resident of Cassity, passed away Tuesday evening, Dec. 17, 2002, at his home. He had been in declining health for the past 10 months.
He was born May 27, 1933, at Valley Bend, a son of the late Edward and Mabel George.
He was married to Margarete Geneva Shreve George, who survives at Cassity.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael Steven George and wife, Barbara, and Jerry Paul George and wife, Maggie, all of Cassity; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Anna) Harlan of Jimtown and Mrs. Walter (Jenny) Ice of Charleston; four brothers, Ronald George and Everett George, both of Mabie, Edward “June” George of Cassity and Donald George of Buckhannon; four sisters, Phyllis Zirkle and Harriett “Tippy” Wiseman, both of Mabie, Margaret Johnson, East Lake, Ohio, and Wanda “Jakie” Watson of Southington, Ohio; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
Also preceding him in death were one sister, Ruby George; and one grandson, Anthony Harlan.
Mr. George was a veteran of the U.S. Army attaining the rank of corporal. He was a coalminer for 40 years prior to his retirement and a member of the Fincham Chapel Church at Adolph.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Verl Simmons, the Rev. Leon Hevener and the Rev. Ralph Summerfield officiating. Interment will follow in Rowan Memorial Cemetery near Mabie. Presentation of the American flag will be made by the members of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Randolph County Unit, 105 Wilson Lane, Elkins, W.Va. 26241 or to the Rowan Memorial Cemetery, in care of Cindy Reel, PO Box 11, Coalton, W.Va. 26257 in memory of Mr. George. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Thomas Michael George.
