Patty Elza, age 74 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2020 at a nursing facility in Salem, WV. She was born April 29, 1946 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late James Willard Waugaman and Genevieve Irene Perry Waugaman. She is survived by her husband, Joseph “Alvin” Elza of Elkins, one sister, Janet R. Manley of Buckhannon and her mother-in-law, Juanita Carr of Elkins. Brothers-in-law, James “Butch” Dickenson of Philippi, WV, Sam Elza, Rich Carr and Ronnie Carr, all of Elkins. Sisters-in-law, Roberta Waugaman of Buckhannon, WV, Dora Fisher of Elkins , Dolly Collier of Valley Bend, Ethel Smearman of Elkins, Betty Hale of Norton and Charlotte Elza of Elkins. Several nieces and nephews including a special great niece, Kimber Kelly who was her pride and joy. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Betty L. Waugaman and Sheila Dickenson, two brothers, Terry S. and James L. Waugaman, two brothers-in-law, Jimmy and Donnie Carr, one sister, Wanda Elza and a great niece, Olivia P. Zirkle. Patty graduated from Buckhannon Upshur High School and Burnell College in Memphis, TN. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for thirty five years at various locations throughout Tennessee and West Virginia. In her younger years, she had a love for horses and loved trying new recipes in her later years. Prior to Patty’s disability, she was a member of Harts Chapel Church in Elkins.
Friends may call from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm Thursday, August 13, 2020 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm Thursday with Pastor Mike Dickinson and Pastor Dave Collins officiating. Interment will follow at the Sand Run Baptist Cemetery at Buckhannon, WV. As we continue to follow the mandate of Gov. Jim Justice and the guidelines established by the Center for Disease Control, masks and social distancing will be required for anyone attending the services for Mrs. Elza. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Patty Elza.
