Mary Elizabeth Cain, age 72 years, a resident of Martinsburg, WV, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Canterbury Center in Shepherdstown, WV. She was born January 11, 1948 at Elkins, the daughter of the late John A. and Marie Bish Cain. Also preceding her in death were three brothers: James F. Cain, John A. Cain, Jr., and Thomas M. Cain. After graduating from Elkins High School, she attended St Mary-of-the-woods College in Indiana for two years and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from West Virginia University in 1970. She was employed as a teacher for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation prior to becoming a Social Service Worker for the WV Department of Health & Human Resources. Throughout her career she most enjoyed working with children and foster parents, and was named Outstanding Service Worker of the Year by the WV Child Care Association. She was a member of Saint Brendan Church in Elkins and attended St. Agnes Catholic Church while living in Shepherdstown.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, only a private graveside service for interment will be held at Saint Brendan Catholic Cemetery; Father James E. O’Connor and Rev. Mr. Raymond Godwin will officiate. A Memorial Service will be held at Saint Brendan Church at a later date when the Pandemic has subsided. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mary Elizabeth Cain.
